For road cyclists who ride in bad weather or heavy traffic, Cannondale’s SmartSense Gen 2 turns a simple light setup into an intelligent safety ecosystem. At its core is a central battery, hidden deep inside the downtube of Cannondale’s bikes, which powers the head and tail lights, a radar, and even the SRAM AXS drivetrain – all from a single source. This ensures a clean look: the cables are routed internally, and only the subtly integrated lights and the neatly embedded radar remain visible. The battery, stored in the downtube, can be easily removed or charged directly on the bike via USB-C. The system can be operated either on its own or conveniently via the Cannondale app with a wide range of features, offering a well-rounded package that the jury have recognised for its enhanced safety and user-friendly control, thanks to the combined lighting and radar features.
