For the 2018 model year there’s no topic quite so vehemently up for discussion as battery integration. It goes way beyond aesthetics: by getting rid of a mounted battery, bike developers create space in the front triangle. Haibike’s Modular Rail System displays how to make optimal use of this space – and we aren’t just talking about a bottle cage mount. There’s also the option to add a bag or a smartly integrated cable lock. The system is particularly interesting for hardtailers, who can use the so-called Range Extender to mount a second Bosch battery, and thereby double the battery capacity to a plush 1,000 Wh. It’s a flexible system that lets the rider decide what features they’d most appreciate on their bike. Right now, it’s a beacon in the industry, with no other system offering such flexibility.
