Zipp 454 NSW Carbon Clincher Disc brake

Speed is nothing without control – especially when riding on aero wheels. This is exactly why the developers at US wheel specialist Zipp have focused on crosswind stability and turbulence reduction in order to create the most efficient and effective set of wheels possible. The result of their efforts is the new Zipp 454 NSW Carbon Clincher wheelset, with an alternating 53/58 mm-deep rim and innovative surface. The alternating rim profile is meant to improve aerodynamics and rolling smoothness by causing more-frequent but smaller wind turbulences than a traditional rim with a uniform shape. In brief, fewer but larger turbulences have an increasingly negative effect on running smoothness. The Zipps’ unique surface structure influences the air flow while also reducing the turbulence, making the wheel aerodynamically more efficient and stable. As a result, the wheels offer precise handling and well-balanced riding performance, requiring reduced effort to keep the bike rolling. There’s also a gorgeous “streamlined-sound,” the purest of symphonies for a cyclist’s ears.
